Chipata-The governments of the United States, Zambia, and Norway, along with Cargill, Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO), General Mills, and the Wildlife Conservation Society, jointly launched the Better Life Alliance today, a public-private partnership that promotes food security and conservation farming in Eastern Province.

Smallholder farmers purchasing farming inputs

LUSAKA - The United States government launched a new agriculture development and food security project aimed at increasing the productivity and incomes of more than 200,000 smallholder farmers in Eastern Province.  The Production, Finance, and Improved Technology Plus (PROFIT+) project, funded under the auspices of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will work with smallholder farming households to increase agricultural production by 30 percent.

LUSAKA - Cargill, one of the biggest multinational American grain and oilseed companies in Africa, has joined the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Wildlife Conservation Society, General Mills, and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in the Better Life Alliance.  The Better Life Alliance is a public-private partnership that promotes food security and conservation farming in rural areas throughout much of Eastern Province.

LUSAKA — Calling for a clearer role for policy analysis in the country’s agricultural development, stakeholders officially launched the Indaba Agriculture Policy Research Institute (IAPRI) in Lusaka today. The IAPRI is an independent, Zambian-led institute that will provide credible, impartial policy guidance on agricultural issues. To ensure the IAPRI’s impartiality, the institute will derive its research mandate from its own Zambian board of directors composed of public and private sector officials.

LUSAKA – Increasing smallholder farmers’ access to agricultural markets improves household incomes and nutrition, as well as Zambia’s economy as a whole. With this aim, the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), joins OLAM International, Wildlife Conservation Society, General Mills, and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in the Better Life Alliance. Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO), a Zambian non-profit company, will implement the Better Life Alliance.
